Biofeedback Prince Albert - The subject of biofeedback is very broad and has been existing ever since the 1950's. Training method using biofeedback tests comprise monitoring vital signs like for instance blood pressure, muscle activity, EEG and blood pressure as a guide. The method is intended to facilitate greater control over one's body. Since an individual's physiological condition is usually associated to one's state of mind, having immediate knowledge of particular signs could offer insight to let somebody know more about what their thought processes are.
There are two major biofeedback techniques with the most common comprising empowerment training. It is used as a way to become more self aware with much better self control. The second technique is as a kind of therapy meant for overcoming particular sicknesses or health problems. The same with all subjects of self-help, biofeedback has its quirks. There are various aspects of body functioning which we are unable to manipulate with conscious control, although the realm of functions which we can manipulate is broader than what nearly all individuals realize.
One of the most surprising findings concerning biofeedback is that some aspects of the autonomic nervous system are changeable to conscious control. This discovery was found by Dr. James S. Gordon, a well-known Yale neuroscientist and psychologist. He experimented with rats and was able to get them to alter several nervous functions from brainwaves to heart rate by rewarding them selectively with direct stimulation to their pleasure centers.
Biofeedback has seen positive benefits for various problems in view of the fact that it is able to help with cases of incontinence, stroke and spinal cord rehabilitation, pain and stress management among others. Biofeedback tools could be found in the form of bathroom mirrors and scales, and may be more common than you might think. These apparatus are types of biofeedback that convey to us information about our appearance and our weight. Hence, we all use biofeedback.
In the future, people are hopeful that biofeedback can treat depression, anxiety, drug addiction, headaches and various common concerns. There are some who think that biofeedback devices would develop enough in the future to be able to control bodily functions. It has been suggested that real time MRI brain scans would allow us the opportunity to instantly see when we are feeling angry or confused. This particular information would make us more inclined to think about how our moods have an effect on our decisions or thoughts.
